What is a fireguard Certificate of Fitness?

A fireguard Certificate of Fitness (C of F) is a credential from the FDNY that authorizes you to perform fire watch duties — patrolling a building to detect fire hazards, raise the alarm, and help occupants evacuate. Employers across NYC require it for security guards, building staff, shelter workers, and construction crews. You earn it by passing a written exam in person at FDNY headquarters, 9 MetroTech Center in Brooklyn.
