About the F-02 Certificate of Fitness
The F-02 (Fire Guard for Shelter) authorizes you to perform fire safety duties in homeless and emergency shelters — patrolling for hazards, maintaining a fire watch, and assisting with evacuations. Shelter staff, security guards, and building managers need it to work fire watch in NYC shelters.
Notably, an F-02 holder can also perform F-01 impairment duties within a shelter. You earn the certificate by passing a written exam in person at FDNY headquarters, 9 MetroTech Center in Brooklyn.
