Eligibility

Before taking the PMP exam, candidates must meet specific educational and professional experience criteria. Generally, there are two pathways:

With a Four-Year Degree (Bachelor’s or Global Equivalent):

  • Project Management Experience: At least 36 months of non-overlapping project leadership experience.
  • Project Management Education: A minimum of 35 hours of formal project management education or CAPM® Certification.

Without a Four-Year Degree (High School Diploma or Associate’s Degree):

  • Project Management Experience: At least 60 months of leading projects.
  • Project Management Education: A minimum of 35 hours of formal project management training.

PMP Exam Pass Score

The PMP exam does not have a straigthforward passing percentage. The examination is administered in multiple shifts and each question set have different difficulty level. The Project Management Institute uses a scaled scoring system with a predetermined passing threshold that can vary over time. However, a 75% or higher score is considered safe for passing.
